WHAT THIS IS

The Investment Skills Workshop is an interactive financial literacy programme that teaches participants how to invest by doing, not just listening.

Through a custom-designed simulation game, participants manage a portfolio across changing market conditions—learning how to navigate risk, diversify assets, and make decisions under uncertainty.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Participants will:

  • Understand key investment concepts (asset classes, diversification, risk vs return)
  • Learn how market cycles affect different asset classes
  • Develop decision-making skills under uncertainty
  • Recognise common behavioural biases (e.g. loss aversion, overconfidence)
  • Apply investment principles to real-life financial planning

HOW THE WORKSHOP WORKS

1. Investment Foundations

Participants are introduced to:

  • Market cycles
  • Asset classes (equities, bonds, gold, cash)
  • Diversification strategies
  • Risk-return trade-offs

2. The Game: Rockstar Portfolio Manager

Participants form small groups and manage a simulated investment portfolio.

Objective:
Grow your portfolio while navigating changing market conditions.

3. Dynamic Market Simulation

  • Market events and scenarios affect asset prices
  • Participants make buy/sell/hold decisions
  • Portfolio performance evolves over time
  • Competitive scoring adds engagement

Participants must:

  • Adapt to volatility
  • Balance risk and return
  • Make decisions with incomplete information

4. Debrief & Financial Literacy

Participants reflect on:

  • What strategies worked (and what didn’t)
  • Emotional reactions to gains and losses
  • Real-world parallels in investing

The session concludes with practical guidance on:

  • Personal finance fundamentals (saving, CPF, risk management)
  • How to start investing responsibly
