WHAT THIS IS

The Immersive Economics Workshop is an interactive learning experience where participants don’t just learn economic theory—they experience it through gameplay.

Through a custom-designed simulation, participants make real-time decisions as different stakeholders in an economy, seeing firsthand how policies, behaviour, and external shocks shape outcomes like inflation, unemployment, and growth.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand key macroeconomic concepts (inflation, unemployment, GDP, trade balance)
  • Apply fiscal and monetary policy decisions in a simulated environment
  • Analyse trade-offs between different stakeholders in an economy
  • Experience the impact of imperfect information and external shocks
  • Connect theoretical concepts to real-world economic events

HOW THE WORKSHOP WORKS

1. Foundations (Theory Made Simple)

Participants are introduced to key concepts such as:

  • Fiscal and monetary policy
  • Aggregate demand and supply
  • Economic cycles and trade-offs

2. The Game: Econo-Clash!

Participants are divided into stakeholder groups and attempt to achieve their group objectives, which impacts the economy as a whole across:

    • GDP growth
    • Inflation
    • Unemployment
    • Trade balance

    3. Dynamic Gameplay

    • Decisions are made each round
    • Economic indicators update in real-time
    • Unexpected events (e.g. supply shocks) disrupt the system
    • Stakeholders negotiate and influence one another

    4. Debrief & Real-World Connections

    Participants reflect on:

    • What worked and what failed
    • Policy trade-offs and unintended consequences
    • Real-world parallels (e.g. inflation cycles, recession responses)

     WHO THIS IS FOR
